Has anyone else had a terrible experience with insurance roadside assistance taking forever to arrive?

Hi everyone, I'm honestly still annoyed thinking about what happened to me yesterday and I just need to vent a little and also ask if this is normal or if I just have bad luck. I was leaving a shopping mall in Abu Dhabi around 8pm and when I got to my car it wouldn't start at all. No clicking, no lights, just completely dead like someone had removed the battery overnight. I thought no problem, I pay extra every year for comprehensive insurance that includes roadside assistance so I'll just call them and someone will be here soon. Well I called the number and after going through about five automated menus I finally reached a human who took my details and said a technician would be there within sixty to ninety minutes. I thought okay that's a bit long but I can wait. Two hours passed and nobody showed up so I called again. This time they told me the driver was on another call and I was next in line but they couldn't give me an updated time estimate. Another hour went by and I was getting really frustrated because I had groceries in the back that were starting to thaw and my phone battery was down to twenty percent. I started searching online for alternative options because clearly my insurance wasn't going to help me anytime soon. I found a website and decided to read more about their towing services because they claimed to have fast response times even during peak hours. I gave them a call and the dispatcher was actually polite and helpful which was already a huge improvement over my insurance company. He said someone could be there in about forty minutes and I honestly didn't believe him at that point because I had already been waiting for three hours. But to my shock a tow truck showed up in thirty five minutes and the driver had my car loaded up in less than ten minutes. He even dropped me and the car at a garage near my apartment. My insurance roadside assistance finally called me back four and a half hours after my initial call to ask if I still needed help. I couldn't believe it. Has anyone else experienced such terrible wait times with their insurance or did I just get unlucky? Also do you have a backup plan for when insurance fails because I definitely need one after yesterday. Thanks for letting me rant and for any advice.

That sounds incredibly frustrating, especially after paying extra for roadside assistance and then being left waiting for hours. Having a backup option definitely seems like a good idea after an experience like this, because car trouble never happens at a convenient time. I was actually looking through spinmama  recently, and it reminded me how useful it is to have a few reliable resources saved in advance. Hopefully you won’t have to deal with another four-hour wait anytime soon!
